Direct-To-Root-System

Provide and install a Rootwell Direct-To-Root-System for each tree and shrub as shown on the drawings and as specified below. This permanent system is required for the purpose of producing a pathway through which air, water and nutrients shall penetrate the soil reaching the plants roots.

Newly Planted Trees: Install a minimum of 3 Rootwell units in the prepared planting pit, evenly spaced, 120° apart, place against the root ball. Install Rootwell with the removable capped end up with the top even with the finish grade level. Each unit shall measure (+/- 5%) 18 inches long, 3.2 inches in diameter, with a cylinder open surface area equaling not less than 47% of total surface area. Greater than 1500 uniformly spaced orifices along the entire surface. Each end shall have a cap. The ‘top’ end shall have a removable plug for on-going access into the Rootwell. Existing Trees: Install Rootwell units in a circular manner 2/3 rd the distance from the trunk to the ‘drip-line’. A minimum of 3 Rootwell units per tree. Rootwell units shall be spaced not greater than four feet apart in a circular manner. Install with the removable cap end up. The top cap shall have a removable plug for access into the cylinder. The Rootwell top must be even with the finish grade level. Each unit shall measure (+/- 5%) 18 inches long, 3.2 inches in diameter, with a cylinder open surface area equaling not less than 47% of total surface area. Greater than 1500 uniformly spaced orifices along the entire surface. Each end shall have a cap. The ‘top’ end shall have a removable plug for on-going access into the Rootwell. Shrubs: Install 3 Rootwell units in the prepared root ball pit, evenly spaced (120° apart) placed against the root ball or root mass. Install Rootwell with the capped end up, with the top even with the grade level. Each unit shall measure (+ / - 5%) 12 inches long, 2 inches in diameter, with a cylinder open surface area equaling not less than 37%. Greater than 750 uniformly spaced orifices along the entire surface. Each end shall have a cap. The ‘top’ end shall have a removable plug for on-going access into the Rootwell.
