Happy Friday! Did you know that right now is the perfect time to plant brussels sprouts? I know, for most people this is the least favorite of the veggies, however they are packed with nutrition.

Brussels sprouts are worth eating because of how healthy they are for you. According to FTDAY, here are 3 reasons why brussels sprout are so healthy.

  1. Vitamin C
    Brussels sprouts are a great source of vitamin C. Having vitamin C in your diet helps to fight against colds and provides antioxidants.
  2. Sulforaphane
    This chemical is said that have anti-cancer properties. Brussels sprouts, along with broccoli, are full of this chemical.
  3. Low Fats and Sodium
    If you are looking to lose weight, this vegetable is for you because they are so low in fats and sodium. Now that we know how important these sprouts are to our health, I’ll share a couple of tips on how to grow them.

    • You can actually plant brussels sprouts all year and that includes the winter time.
    • When planting the University of Illinois Extension recommends:

             “Space plants 24 to 36 inches apart in the row, or 24 inches in all directions in beds. Cover seeds 1/4 to 1/2 inch deep and transplant the seedlings when they are about 3 inches tall. Do not allow transplants to become stunted in the flats before transplanting.”
