I love the smell of a fresh Christmas tree. I will even buy candles to enjoy that smell when I don’t have a fresh tree around. Happy Monday, and welcome to our Christmas Tree series. This series is all about Christmas trees, how to pick, care and even dispose of your fresh Christmas Tree.

Do you already know what type of tree you want but looking for the best version of that tree? Today, we are sharing about what you want to know before heading out to the Christmas tree farm. With this knowledge you will be able to get the perfect Christmas tree for your home and your holidays.

What you need to know about selecting a Christmas tree

  • Before you even walk out the door, measure the height of your ceiling. The Readers Digest recommends that you pick a tree that is 1 foot shorter or more than your ceiling. Also include the measurements for the tree stand and the base your tree will fit in.
  • When you get to the Tree Farm, you want firm needles that refuse to fall from the branches. Don’t be afraid to get a little rough with the tree branches. Test them out. According to Better Homes and Gardens:

Individual needles should bend rather than snap if you pinch them between your fingers.

  • Next, check out the stump. You want the freshest possible and you can tell that by examining the stump to be sure that it is moist. It may even have stick sap on it.
  • Here is where those measurements will come in handy. Make sure the stump or base of the tree will fit into your tree stand and base at home. Also you want the stump to be straight and at least 6 inches long.

Now you should have the perfect Christmas tree. Next week, we will be sharing some great tips on how to care and keep the tree beautiful while it is in your home.
