Spring Bulbs

As long as your ground has yet to freeze, you are all set to continue planting those bulbs. This weekend, go ahead and plant those bulbs that will come to life this spring.

Mulching

Mulching is so helpful and if you’re in a warmer climate Southern Living  says,

After the first frost, add a 2-inch layer of pine straw or finely shredded pine bark mulch around the bases of your trees and shrubs. You can also use fallen leaves: Rake them into a pile, and chop them up with a lawn mower; then gather them, and spread them around your plants. They’ll appreciate the extra protection during winter months.”

Harvesting

Do you love fresh brussel sprouts? Well if you do, you are in luck because December is the perfect time to harvest them.

Pruning

A number of deciduous trees actually do better when pruning is done during late autumn to early winter.  A few examples include:

  • Maples
  • Birches
  • Beeches
  • Willows

What is your favorite part of gardening?  I love the harvest and reaping the rewards of my hard work.
