Today, we are focusing on the perennial, Russian Sage.

A Few Benefits of Russian Sage

  • This shrub is the perfect addition to any boarder or garden and has an enticing aroma.

  • If you need to rid yourself of some rabbits, The Old Farmer’s Almanac recommends planting Russian sage to help.

How to Plant Russian Sage

  • Believe it or not, but you can actually plant Russian Sage anytime of the year.
  • Chose a location to plant this perennial that gets full sun and has well-drained soil.
  • Before planting, The National Gardening Association recommends to loosen the soil with a garden fork about 12-15 inches deep then mix 2-4 inches of compost in.
  • Then dig a hole that is twice the diameter of the pot the plant is in.
  • When placing the plant in the hole, make sure the surface of the soil is level with the top of the root ball.
  • Next, carefully fill in the hole with the soil.
  • Install an aeration tube for optimal watering.
  • Pour water down the aeration tube letting the root zone be saturated.

How to Care for Russian Sage

  • Examiner.com reports that there is no need to fertilize this perennial.
  • In the spring time, make sure to cut the plant back about 6 inches.
