Take a look below and you’ll find the answers on how much to water, how much light the plant needs, what temperature to keep the house and how to feed your moth orchid.

Moth Orchid Care Tips

  • Watering
Moth orchids are more likely to be killed by over-watering than under-watering. Better Homes and Gardens has a great tip for water orchids:

The goal is to get each mix particle to absorb as much water as possible. To give the potting mix enough time to absorb water, place the entire pot in a bowl of water for 10 to 15 minutes, then lift it out and let the excess water drain before putting the pot back in place.”

Another quick tip that is relatively new is to water orchids with ice cubes. By using only 3 ice cubes, you will ensure that you are not over watering the plant. Simply place 3 ice cubes at the base of the plant as far away from the stem as possible. When the ice cubes melt, remove any excess water. Three standard sized ices cubes should be sufficient.

  • Light
Your best bet is not to put your orchid in direct sunlight. However, you do want to make sure it does get some indirect sunlight because the overhead lights won’t do it.
  • Temperature
At night, make sure that the temperature doesn’t drop below 60 degrees. During the day, it’s a good idea to keep the house at about mid-70s to 80s.
  • Fertilize
Moth orchids love their fertilizer. Your local nursery should have an easy-to-apply fertilizer. Just simply follow the directions.
