Fruit and Vegetable Tips

  • Plant beets, carrots, cauliflower, lettuce, kale and peas this month for a winter harvest.
  • The Old Farmers’ Almanac suggests to add cow manure or compost to your asparagus and rhubarb beds.

General July Gardening Tips

  • Due to the summer’s heat this time of year, you have to watch for diseases and pests.
  • The best time to water your trees, lawn, vegetable gardens, flowers and plants is in the morning. Water deeply and less frequently.
  • To help reduce weeds, add mulch around flower beds, trees and shrubs. This will also help to retain moisture in the soil. Better Homes and Gardens recommend layering the mulch about 2 – 3 inches deep.
  • Watering is critical this time of year. For best results we recommend installing an aeration tube – a direct to root watering system. These tubes come in different sizes for your trees as well as your garden.
