November’s 2013 Gardening Tips and Tricks

  • Finish planting any of your spring bulbs this month.
  • According to Better Homes and Gardens, it’s not too late to plant garlic.
  • Remember that fall is the perfect time to plant any new shrubs or trees. During the winter the shrubs and trees go into dormancy, meaning that there isn’t any new growth. This allows the for all the attention to be focused on the roots. All winter long your newly planted shrubs and trees roots grow deeper and deeper into the soil.
  • Add mulch. You can use the extra clippings from your lawn and leaves to add mulch to your garden beds. This will help keep your flowers warm this winter.
  • Another way to make sure that your newly planted trees make it through the end of winter and start new growth this spring is to install aeration tubes. An aeration tube is a cylinder that is installed next to the newly planted tree or shrub. Rootwell Pro318s are aeration tubes that are scientifically proven to promote deep root growth by providing oxygen, water, and nutrients to the root zone.
  • If you have an annuals pull them up this month.
  • Many plants die because of lack of water when the ground freezes. If you have had problems with this before, you can install an aeration tube designed for plants like the Rootstick.
