Landscaping Tips

  • Plant any new shrubs and trees this month. Fall is the perfect time to plant trees because they get all of winter to deepen and strengthen their roots before spring comes and the above ground growth starts.
  • Keep watering your lawn, especially during dry spells.
  • Watering is critical during the winter. Make sure your trees and shrubs are receiving enough water by installing aeration tubes.

Fruit and Vegetable Tips

  • According to the Old Farmer’s Almanac, you can continue planting vegetables this month. Vegetables like broccoli, cabbage, onions, and spinach.
  • Keep your herb gardening going with herbs that like cool weather. These herbs include dill, sage, cilantro, and parsley.
  • Better Homes and Gardens recommend getting strawberries in the ground early this month.
  • If you are looking to plant asparagus crowns, make sure to do that this month.

Perennial and Annual Tips

  • Plant all of your cold season flowers this month such as petunias and snapdragons.

General Gardening Tips

  • Organic Gardening reminds us to clean up our garden beds this month by removing all dead and diseased plants. This will aid in reducing the amount of pest for next year. Plus you can add them to your compost pile.
  • The fallen leaves from your tree make great mulch and can be used as brown material in your compost pile.
