Today, we are looking into one of the most beautiful and easiest to grow perennials sedum. Sedum even made our 5 Fall Perennials for Perfect Fall Color article. One of the many reasons why this is a great perennial is that all throughout the year, it brings something special to your garden.

Sedum – Captivating All Year Long

In the spring, this plant makes its presence known growing throughout the spring and into the summer. Once mid-summer has come, you’ll see this plant display beautiful colors of reds, purples, whites, or pinks. Once fall has ended, the show isn’t over just yet. Rather, sedum continues to allure by providing green foliage while the snow falls.

Sedum is a perennial meaning that it continues to come back year after year. Plant once and propagate later.

How to Grow Sedum

  • The perfect time to plant sedum is in the spring.
  • This plant prefers well-drained soil and lots of sun.
  • The Old Farmer’s Almanac recommends planting the seeds anywhere between 6 inches to 2 feet apart.
  • The best part about these plants is that once you plant and they are settled, most of the work is done.
  • Once the plant has finished flowering, make sure to cut the plant back to maintain your desired shape.
  • Sedum can be easily divided into separate plant preferably in the spring or fall.
