Summer Lawn Care Tips

Mowing Tips

  • Set your blades at the highest level on your lawn mower when mowing this summer.
  • Only take off about a 1/3 of the highest of your grass every time you mow.
  • When you are only taking off 1/3 of your grass’ height, you might find that you need to mow more often, even up to three times a week.
  • Don’t mow your lawn when the grass is wet.

Watering Tips

  • Water at dawn or as close to it as you can. Doing this allows your grass to soak in the water before the sun evaporates it.
  • When you water you want to saturate the soil. The grass will then drink in the water after the soil has been saturated.
  • When you make saturating the soil instead of just watering the grass the goal, you don’t have to water as often.
  • You’ll know it’s time to water when your lawn does bounce back when you walk on it, instead you’ll see your footprints.

Fertilizing Tips

  • One cheap and quick way to fertilize your lawn is by leaving the grass clippings when you mow your lawn. These clippings will protect your grass against the sun and even help prevent weeds.
  • The rule of thumb when fertilizing your lawn is in the spring and fall. However, fertilizing mid-summer can help feed your lawn and prevent weeds.

Take Away

Watering during the right time of day, saturating the soil when you water, keeping the grass longer and fertilizing your lawn will help to keep your grass green all summer long.
