On this particular Wednesday, we are looking at cherry tomatoes. Cherry tomatoes are every beginner gardener’s bread and butter. You’ll be shocked at how easy it is to grow them.
When I lived in an apartment, I always wanted to have garden and wasn’t allowed to plant anything. That is when I came to know and love cherry tomatoes. They are perfect for our gardening friends who live in apartments.
Here are easy 6 steps to grow your very own cherry tomatoes.
- First things first, you’ll need a pot. You can either get one without drainage holes, make your own or, you can purchase one with holes. Don’t worry about spending too much on the pot. It can be plastic or anything you like.
- According to Organic Gardeners location is crucial to planting cherry tomatoes. Here is what they have to say,
Pick a location. For best fruiting, you need a location where the plant will get at least 8 hours of direct sun each day (the roots can be in the shade). You can skip the tomato cage—and save a little cash—if you have a spot close to a balcony or railing, which you can use to support the tomato vines.”
- If you cannot skip the tomatoes cage, install it to the pot.
- Add the compost to the pot. Real Simple recommends using an organic potting mix as opposed to using garden soil so that your tomatoes don’t risk the transferring of diseases or pests.
- Install Rootsticks. Rootsticks are a direct to root watering system and are the perfect way to keep your cherry tomatoes watered.
- Dig a deep hole in the middle of the compost and put the seedlings in there.
- Make sure to check if the soil is moist or not about every 2 days. Add water to the Rootstick if you notice the soil drying out.
- Watch the cherry tomatoes grow!
