Do you have an apple tree in your backyard, but cannot enjoy it because of disease and pests?

My in-laws recently moved onto a beautiful property with apple trees, orange trees and a wonderful garden. This fall, we were visiting and we were so excited to try this free organic fruit. We realized that the fruit had not been sprayed and the fruit was diseased and covered with worms.

Has this ever happened to you? Growing your own fruit and vegetables is such an amazing way to save money and be healthy, but it does require some upkeep. Today, we are sharing about spraying fruit trees.

Right now is the perfect time to spray your fruit trees and it is because they are currently in dormant. When a tree is in dormant, it means they are alive but not growing. Trees in dormancy are ripe for spraying.

Here are a few helpful tips when spraying your fruit trees.

  1. Spray on a day that is clear and without a breeze.
  2. According to The Garden Helper,

The ideal temperature for application is between 40° and 70° F., preferably temperatures should remain over 50° F. for at least twenty-four hours in order to get the oil to spread out over the tree and cover all crooks and crevices.  Complete coverage is required for effective control of all overwintering pests.

  3. Always remember to wear a mask.
  4. Read and follow the instructions of the spray that you purchase.

What is your favorite fruit tree to have in your garden? Have you had a difficulty keeping them alive and pest free?
